Walker URC: Beliefs

The fullest expression of our beliefs can be found in the Reformed confessions we subscribe to: the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, and the Canons of Dort.

In Summary:

  1. God is Sovereign, Omnipotent, Omniscient, and Omnipresent.

  2. God is one God in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  3. Jesus is the eternal, divine, incarnate Son of God.

  4. The Bible is the inerrant, infallible Word of God.

    1. God has revealed in His Word everything we need to know about Him and His plan of salvation.

  5. Adam and Eve were historical persons; the first human beings, created by God, not descended from any other creature.

    1. We inherit a corrupt human nature as a result of Adam and Eve's sin.

    2. There is no part of this human nature that is not corrupted and there is nothing we can do to make ourselves right with God.

    3. Indeed, our own sins increase our guilt every day.

  6. Jesus Christ's death and resurrection was a substitutionary atonement whereby our guilt was transferred to him and his righteousness was transferred to us.

    1. This is the ONLY way of salvation.

    2. We receive this salvation by faith alone and not by any works or merit of our own.

    3. In fact, even this faith itself is a gift of God that we receive when the Holy Spirit regenerates us.

  7. The church is made up of all those who have been redeemed by Jesus Christ.
